About us

What is Tree Top Adventure?

Tree Top Adventure is a high level adventurous journey through the trees that involves negotiating a series of obstacles. Participants are fitted with a harness and helmet and attached to a safety line.

Meet the team:

Tree Top Adventure Ltd is a joint venture between Sean Taylor, a former Royal Marine, and Ropes Course Developments Ltd – the founders of the European Ropes Course Industry.

The two directors of Tree Top Adventure are Sean Taylor and Nick Moriarty.

Sean Taylor

Sean was born and bred in Trefriw, North Wales - his family home is less than five miles from Tree Top Adventure. After an apprenticeship in his father’s forestry business Sean joined the Royal Marines. It was with the Commandos that he gained considerable managerial experience as well as many practical skills relating to the adventure industry.

After serving 22 years with the Royal Marines Sean decided he would like to start his own adventure ropes course business in Snowdonia and he is now Managing Director of Tree Top Adventure.

Whilst in the Royal Marines, Sean qualified as an instructor in various different roles including Jungle Warfare, Military Skiing, Survival, Unarmed Combat, Helicopter Abseiling and Sky Diving.

Nick Moriarty

Nick started life as an outdoor instructor (with expertise in sailing, diving and climbing) and was instrumental in the establishment of an outdoor centre in the South of England. Like many children he had a love of building tree houses, zip wires and rope bridges; however, when most children lose interest in swinging about in the trees Nick decided to make it a career.

Nick’s first professionally built ropes course was at Burnbake near Corfe Castle in Dorset. Before the Ropes Course was even finished he had a string of would-be clients. Nick then created Ropes Course Developments Ltd (). RCD has built over 550 facilities in 20 different countries, has trained over 4,500 instructors to manage ropes courses and there are over 2 million people who use an RCD ropes course annually. RCD’s safety record remains unblemished. For a number of years Nick lived high in the French Alps with his children but in 2005 he returned to the UK with his family to further the development of Tree Top Adventure. Achievements to note:

  • Founder of Ropes Course Developments Ltd (RCD)
  • Founder of the Advisory Association for Ropes Courses and Initiatives (AARCI).
  • Board member and UK representative for the European Ropes Course Association (ERCA)
  • Co-convenor of prEN:15567 for ropes courses
  • Experienced and qualified in Industrial Ropes Access Techniques
  • Responsible for the construction of over 550 adventure ropes courses in 20 countries
  • An expert witness in ropes course related litigation
  • Advisor to the HSE
  • Responsible for the training of over 4000 instructors
  • Established several RCD owned ropes courses for developmental and recreational use
